July 2007 update:

Edie always gets attention.  Her dark mahogany coloring is just so lovely that everyone seems to admire it.  We have lots of spotted goats, striking black and white goats, splashy goats, but it’s Edie that draws the attention.  She takes it all in stride, but really does appreciate the extra animal cracker or two that often comes her way.  Two of Edie's daughters, Cinnamon and Espeez, have been named Elite Does.  Good Work, Mama Edie!

July 2006 Update:

Edie kidded early in 2005 and was our winter milker through the 2006 early season.  She milked for well over a year, giving wonderful high quality milk.  We are giving Edie this summer off from milking and she seems to be enjoying her free time.  But we are all a bit anxious to see how she does next year.

4/2005 Update:

Edie is really taking this milking job quite seriously! She worked on developing her udder for months before her first freshening this year and produced almost half a gallon a beautiful colostrum on her first milking. She has quite quickly become a serious contributor to our cheesemaking operation. She’s still growing and it looks like she will be deep and capacious once she’s done. Her udder is soft and milks out easily. She is already producing as much rich, high quality milk as some of our more seasoned does.

2004

I’ve always thought that if I wanted a different goat breed than Nubians, it would be Oberhaslis. When Sandy of Reuel Dairy Goats in Washington State sent me a picture of Edie, her “Nuberhasli”, I just had to get her! Ok, Edie isn’t really part Oberhasli, she is a Purebred, Registered Nubian… and, oh,  what a Nubian!!! Of her 6 closest ancestors, all 6 have multiple Milking Stars and 4 are Grand Champions!! This girl is going to be one to watch!
